The Best of F. L. Anderson:

Finally, a book that talks about what "Churchgoers" want and need to know.

"Clever Lies and Assumptions: from the Pulpit to the Pews", by F. L. Anderson, uncovers the fallacies most people believe and have been taught about tithing and other Church issues and backs up these findings with scriptures and historical facts. It answers questions that lay heavy on the hearts of many Churchgoers and brings clarity to issues that plague the Church and contradict scripture.

Every year, one million Christians leave the institutional church in the United States. Presently, the number of adult Christians meeting in Home/House/Simple churches in the USA is six to twelve million and growing.

So what is "Simple Church"? Simple Church in not as the name suggest, simplistic or easy. Nor is it just a smaller version of conventional churches. Simple Church is a whole new way of being the church, rather than just having church or attending a building. It is a way of living that is focused on loving relationships, outreach, lifestyle and fundamentally being connected to God.

So now that you know God (or should I say, now that God knows you),
why do you want to go back again and become slaves once more
to the weak and useless spiritual principles of this world? Galatians 4:9

We are used to thinking of church as a building, but how does the Bible portray the church? Interestingly, the Bible never uses the word “church” to describe a building; instead, it gives us the picture of the church as a family. Here are some biblical examples of New Testament house churches:

  • Lydia’s House (Acts 16:40)
  • An Upper Room (Acts 20:8)
  • Priscilla and Aquila’s house (Romans 16:3-5, 1 Corinthians 16:19)
  • Nympha’s house in Laodicea (Colossians 4:15)
  • Archippa’s house (Philemon 2)
  • Some in the West see the house church as a new phenomenon when, in reality, house churches have existed since
the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:42-47).
  • See, hear and read more.

The New Testament Church didn't focus and didn't need expensive buildings to meet in. They didn't need a paid staff. Collecting money to put into a building is not biblical. Collecting money to put into a building and programs puts people in need. It does more harm to the body of Christ, than good. (Acts 2:44-47)
